Marty Schmidt
My philosophy towards climbing in the mountains and life in general all centres around the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies. Being in balance with these bodies will create the true and real self in any situation. This is my path, to understand these ways from the deepest lows to the highest heights so that we can be aware of ourselves, our climbing partners and all that surrounds us daily. Yet we all come up short at times, but knowing that we are coming up short allows us to make it to the next level. Taking this all in everyday while being in the mountains, I can prepare my clients for any mountain experience because I am preparing myself at the very same time. My clients become my climbing partners. Together we can move forward and head after our goals.
The mountains bring balance to the hearts and souls that venture into them. Away from the mountains many of our hearts and souls strive to work on being in balance. No one can stay in the mountains forever; we all must come back to our other lives, with our partners, our families, friends, co-workers, etc. It is in these times that we can grow to new heights from the knowledge and wisdom we learned from the mountains and to share this with others is the magic.
Building up my special clients from around the world for over 25 years has been a pleasure in so many ways. We are more than climbing partners, we become friends for life.
My main quest for taking people out onto the highest mountains of this earth, on the rock faces of the many lands, the frozen waterfalls and back country skiing bowls, is to connect to the rhythm and obtain the harmony of partnership, each having something to offer the adventure and working towards our goals with focused ways to reach them and to come home safe and sound. I also concentrate on small teams, no Sherpas, no O2, no huts, no helicopters; just walk in and out on our own. Only at times when needed will this change. This brings real adventure back into mountaineering and my clients want to experience the mountains in this way, climbing the mountain on their own.
The mountains are a good calling for many of us; we all must find the deepest meanings to what this calling is. And when you do, you know what to do and why you are heading to the hills year after year. These experiences are what we are living for and looking forward to each and every day.
So with these simple words from my experiences, get out into the world of mountains and see for yourself how a grand adventure is waiting for you and your partner (guide).
Cheers, Marty.
